Shooting Investigation

Wednesday January 3, 2024

One adult, juvenile, died after an apparent domestic related shooting, according to Sheriff Jonathon Horton.

Around 10pm on Tuesday January 2, 2024 Deputies responded to a call of someone shot on Glen Gap Rd in the Highland/Tabor community in Etowah County. Once on scene they found an adult female and a male juvenile suffering from gunshot wounds. Deputies started lifesaving measures until medics arrived. Both subjects were pronounced deceased on scene.

Two individuals were taken into custody on scene and transported to the Sheriff's Office Investigation Division for questioning. Jacksonville State Center for Applied Forensics Investigators responded and are assisting Sheriff's Investigators, states Horton.

At this time the names of all involved are being withheld due to next of kin and age of one victim. More will be released when it becomes available. By all accounts this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community, and the investigation is still ongoing.

"Any death is always difficult for everyone involved, but one involving a juvenile is especially hard on all emergency first responders. We are extremely saddened and send our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones during this difficult time." Sheriff Horton states

We would like to thank the Lookout Mountain and Highland Fire Departments, Advantage Ambulance Service, Jacksonville State Center for Applied Forensic and Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit for their assistance and response.
