Student Leadership Academy Begins Monday

(Etowah County, Alabama) Sheriff Todd Entrekin is pleased to announce the eighth annual Etowah County Sheriff’s Office Student Leadership Academy (SLA) begins Sunday, June 10, 2018.

Two incoming high school seniors, from both public and private schools, were nominated by their principals to participate in the one week event.  Each participant has previously met academy requirements and was evaluated, by Etowah County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) staff, based on demonstrated leadership, physical fitness, grade point average and community service.

Students will experience each part of the Sheriff’s Office daily and special operations as well as, an overview of the American criminal justice system.

Participants also will be challenged with guest speakers in various professional disciplines in setting high personal goals for their life, school, career, and community leadership.

The week will be highlighted by a graduation ceremony at the Pitman Theater on Thursday, June 14th, beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Jacksonville State University (JSU) is partnering with the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office to award three college credit hours to those students who successfully complete the SLA.

This partnership is unique; the ECSO will provide the facilities, students and several instructors.  JSU also provides classroom facilities, instructors and the accredited hours at no cost to the Sheriff’s Office or the students.
