Two Charged in Vehicle Chase

TWO CHARGED IN VEHICLE CHASE

(Etowah County, Alabama) Two individuals have been charged in connection to a vehicle chase that occurred Wednesday, June 5, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.

“Darrell Scott Firestone, 30, of Ragland, has been charged with one count of resisting arrest and one count of attempting to elude, both are misdemeanors,” states Investigator Ben Greene.

Firestone was also charged with ten traffic violations including an expired and switched license plate.  Additional charges are pending.

Investigator Greene continues, “Amanda Michelle Sims, 29, of Piedmont, has been charged with one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, which is a felony.  Additional charges are also pending.”

The duo led Etowah County Sheriff’s Office investigators Ben Greene and Lee Amerson on a six minute chase in the Ballplay community after they attempted to make a traffic stop, near the intersection of Tom Cat Road and Beaird Road, on a gray, Chevrolet 1500 truck.  Investigators observed the expired and switched tag, which prompted the attempted stop.

An item tossed out of the vehicle during the chase was never found.

Firestone and Sims took the pursuit through a resident’s yard, neighboring driveway and into a cotton field.

The pursuit ended when Firestone’s vehicle abruptly died in the middle of Centre Road causing a minor collision with the following law enforcement vehicle.

Firestone, who fled on foot, was driving the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license and apprehended shortly there after.  Sims, whose driver’s license is expired, also ran on foot when the truck came to a stop.  She was quickly found inside a nearby barn by Hokes Bluff police officers.

Firestone is currently being detained in the Etowah County Detention Center with no bond due to a probation violation.

Sims is also being detained in the Etowah County Detention Center on $2,500 bond.
